Amid ongoing digital transformation, cybersecurity and personal data protection are receiving increasing attention. These were also the key topics of the Conference on the Law on Cybersecurity and the Law on Personal Data Protection, jointly organized by the Ministry of Public Security and the National Cybersecurity Association (NCA).
The Conference brought together representatives from various ministries, agencies, businesses, and educational institutions. Representing Asia Legal, Lawyer Lưu Xuân Vĩnh was honored to attend the Conference as a delegate.
Cybersecurity and Data as the Foundation of a Digital Nation
At the Conference, Lieutenant General Lê Xuân Minh emphasized the role of cybersecurity and data in building a digital nation. According to him, Vietnam is accelerating digital transformation while promoting science, technology, and innovation. In this context, data is recognized as an important resource. Meanwhile, cyberspace has become an essential part of economic, cultural, and social life.
However, this process also brings various risks. Cybersecurity threats and cybercrime are becoming increasingly complex. Therefore, cybersecurity and personal data protection need to be ensured throughout the digital transformation process. According to Lieutenant General Lê Xuân Minh, institutions, policies, and laws need to be further developed. This will help address current challenges and create a foundation for future development.
Two Laws Establish a Unified Legal Framework for the Data Era
According to Lieutenant General Lê Xuân Minh, the two laws establish a unified legal framework for cybersecurity and personal data protection. The regulations also contribute to protecting human rights and lawful interests in the online environment.
At the same time, the two laws complement each other in implementation. Ensuring cybersecurity provides the technical foundation for personal data protection. Conversely, protecting personal data is an important part of protecting the overall system.
Businesses Need to Take a Proactive Approach to Legal Compliance
Lieutenant General Lê Xuân Minh emphasized the responsibility of agencies, organizations, businesses, and individuals to comply with the law. Compliance should be linked to responsibilities and practical activities. Accordingly, proactive legal compliance not only contributes to enhancing cybersecurity but also strengthens trust in investment and business activities.
The Conference covered three main topics. First, it focused on the Law on Cybersecurity. It also addressed the Law on Personal Data Protection. Finally, a discussion was held on the roadmap for compliance with the Law on Cybersecurity under the theme “Personal Data Protection Trust – A New Competitive Advantage in the Data Era.”
Through these discussions, the program provided updates on new regulations and shared practical experience in implementing laws on cybersecurity and personal data protection amid digital transformation.
