From August 24-28, 2026, Singapore Convention Week 2026 (SCW 2026) took place in Singapore. The event was led by the Singapore Ministry of Law and brought together representatives from regulatory authorities, arbitration institutions, legal practitioners, and dispute resolution experts from various countries.
Under the theme “Timeless Principles, Timely Solutions: Nurturing Trust in a Changing World,” the program focused on the fundamental values of the rule of law, fairness, and trust. It also addressed emerging requirements in cross-border trade, technology, and dispute resolution.
As part of SCW 2026, representatives of Asia Legal had the opportunity to exchange views with legal practitioners and experts on commercial arbitration, commercial mediation, and cross-border dispute resolution. UNCITRAL Academy: Technology and Emerging Requirements in Dispute Resolution
On August 25, 2026, a delegation from the Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC) attended the UNCITRAL Academy Conference and Industry Capacity-Building Workshop. The program was organized by the Singapore Ministry of Law in cooperation with the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL).
The discussions focused on the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and technology on legal systems and dispute resolution mechanisms. Topics included the potential use of technology in commercial arbitration, commercial mediation, and cross-border dispute resolution.
In addition to the potential of technology, the program highlighted the importance of human factors. Professional expertise, experience, the ability to understand the interests of the parties, and the capacity to handle complex legal and commercial issues remain important in dispute resolution.
Strengthening Connections Between the Vietnamese and Singaporean Legal Communities
During the event, VIAC engaged in meetings and exchanges with representatives of regulatory authorities, arbitration institutions, mediators, arbitrators, and international legal experts.
These activities took place as Vietnam–Singapore relations continued to expand across various fields, including law, justice, investment, and trade.
Strengthening professional exchanges contributes to closer connections between the dispute resolution communities of the two countries. It also creates opportunities to share experience in arbitration, commercial mediation, and cross-border dispute resolution.
