VIETNAM ISSUES NEW STANDARD INDUSTRIAL CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM

On 29 September 2025, Deputy Prime Minister Hồ Đức Phớc signed Decision No. 36/2025/QĐ-TTg, officially promulgating the Vietnam Standard Industrial Classification (VSIC) – the comprehensive framework for defining and categorizing economic activities in Vietnam. The Decision will take effect from 15 November 2025.

🔹 Purpose and Significance
National statistical activities;
Building administrative registries, national databases, and sectoral databases;
Supporting state management and policymaking;
Ensuring international comparability of Vietnam’s economic data.

🔹 Structure of the System
The VSIC is organized into five hierarchical levels, covering the full scope of Vietnam’s economy:
Level 1: 22 broad sectors (coded A–V);
Level 2: 87 subsectors (two-digit codes, 01–99);
Level 3: 259 groups (three-digit codes, 011–990);
Level 4: 495 classes (four-digit codes, 0111–9900);
Level 5: 743 detailed subclasses (five-digit codes, 01110–99000).
